Honoring extraordinary members and leaders
State legislator to be recognized

The amazing efforts of union members and several outstanding leaders will be recognized at CFT Convention. Here’s a sneak peek!

Ben Rust Award 

Cathy Campbell, former president of the Berkeley Federation of Teachers and former CFT Vice President, will be the recipient of the CFT’s highest honor — the Ben Rust Award.

Women in Education Award

Two members are being honored in 2021 for promoting the rights of women and issues of gender equity in the educational workplace.

The Women in Education Award honors outstanding achievement by female unionists. You can find the award criteria and past recipients in our Women in Education Award section

Legislator of the Year

This year the CFT will recognize Oakland Assemblymember Rob Bonta for his advocacy on behalf of education and educators in the California Legislature

Organizing and Political Action Recognition

Delegates can look forward to Organizing Recognition at the Virtual Convention as well as Political Action Recognition. 

Awards Postponed or Canceled

Communications Awards

Postponed: Due the Convention being online, the Communications Awards honoring local unions for their outstanding communications may be shifted to a later time in the year, or to another time still to be determined. 

Pride of the Union Awards 

Canceled: Both the EC/TK-12 Council and Community College Council honor members for local union leadership and activism at typical in-person Conventions. Learn more and view past recipients of the EC/TK-12 Council Pride of the Union awards.
