Member-produced labor curricula FREE to educators

The Labor and Climate Justice Education Committee has produced curricula for students at all levels of education, from preschool coloring books to college and university readings, to union-based new member orientation programs. Here you will find some of our most popular and enduring lessons and materials. You may download pdfs for free and purchase print copies or dvds for a minimal fee.

Committee members are classroom teachers, classified employees, and faculty from community college and university labor studies programs. The committee aims to help teachers reach students with information about the history and current place of the labor movement in American democracy.

CFT offices will be closed for this federal holiday.

On Labor Day, we reflect on working people’s victories. Unions are more popular this Labor Day than at any time in more than 50 years⁠—with 71% of Americans now approving of unions.

But this momentum didn’t happen by accident. Working people have organized together for decades—standing together to address low wages, unsafe workplaces, unaffordable health care and a lack of respect on the job.

This issue of CFT United brings those stories together: from the surge of May Day organizing, to hard-won contract gains, to getting books into students’ hands and defending our schools. None of this is isolated. It’s connected, deliberate, and growing. The task in front of us is not to wait for momentum—it’s to deepen it, and make it impossible to ignore. And CFT is doing that every day.

In each legislative session, the CFT tallies how legislators vote on bills of import to educators and union members. In these scorecards, you will find a description of key bills lobbied for and against, and a score for Senate and Assembly members on each bill. Find out if your elected officials are voting union!

Defending Immigrant Students and Families

California has the largest concentration of immigrants in the country. Many of our students and their families are anxious about the threats of mass deportation by the incoming administration. CFT is dedicated to defending our immigrant students, families, and communities.

Classified Professionals Turning Pages, Building Power

On Saturday, April 24, kids in the Lawndale school district got to pick three free books for preschoolers through 8th graders, on topics ranging from history to biography to science as well as fiction. There were Disney books and chapter books for older kids — such as the 20-book Diary of a Wimpy Kid series by Jeff Kinney, who has sold more than 300 million copies — more than the number of albums Led Zeppelin has sold.
