Sacramento, CA – CFT – A Union of Educators and Classified Professionals announced today that the CFT Executive Council has voted to endorse Richard Barrera for Superintendent of Public Instruction.
CFT released the following statement from President Jeff Freitas:
“When California voters fill out their ballots this November, they’ll make a choice that will define our state’s future: a champion for students and schools, or a right-wing extremist, endorsed by the gun lobby, who attacks LGBTQ+ students to make cheap Fox News headlines.
“Our students’ success is on the line, and so is their safety in our classrooms. That’s why we’re proud to endorse Richard Barrera, the only candidate who will protect and fight for every student in California.
“Barrera knows that our schools and students are suffering because we are losing too many talented educators. Sustainable investment in our students and strengthening our teaching pipeline are urgent priorities. As Superintendent, Barrera will ensure every student feels seen, valued, and safe.
“Richard Barrera isn’t just a better choice – he’s the only choice to prioritize student safety and fund our classrooms. Educators and classified professionals are proud to stand with Richard Barrera for Superintendent of Public Instruction and will fight to ensure he’s elected in November.”
Richard Barrera released the following statement:
“I am proud to have the support of the 120,000 members of CFT who are on the frontlines in the critical work of ensuring student success and educator excellence. Those closest to the classroom know best how to achieve those goals and I am honored by the trust CFT has placed in me. I look forward to a long and fruitful partnership with CFT as State Superintendent.”
