We are Proud to Announce CFT’s New Member Leadership Academy

CFT’s NEW Member Leadership Academy is looking for energetic and motivated members who want to unleash their leadership potential. If you believe that education is integrally linked to the social, economic, and environmental issues confronting our communities and want to take an active role in your local’s advocacy around these issues, this new program is for you.

The year-long release time program will provide fellows with support and training in leadership development, mobilization, and organizing skills through hands-on experience on campaigns throughout CFT’s jurisdiction.

How It Works

The Member Leadership Academy is a CFT-led, academic year-long, full-time program starting August 2027.  It is designed to develop union leaders and expand capacity for organizing and movement building. It is open to members who can get released from work for the year. Fellows will participate in active campaigns across CFT locals to gain critical experience.

Eligibility & Requirements for Applicants

  • Be a member in good standing for at least one year and not currently hold an elected office within their local
  • Demonstrate involvement in their local’s political, organizing, or bargaining programs and be sponsored by their leadership
  • Possess a valid driver’s license, insurance, and a reliable vehicle
  • Be able to be released from work for one year
  • Have a flexible schedule as some evening and weekend work will be required
  • Be reliable, punctual, and able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Attend CFT’s union Summer School late June 2027

Compensation

  • This is a release time program
  • CFT will work with locals to facilitate release time and reimburse employers for fellows’ base salary and benefits 
  • Fellows will be reimbursed for authorized business expenses
  • Fellows will receive equivalent time off to their respective Collective Bargaining Agreements and will observe CFT holidays
