SACRAMENTO, CA – CFT President Jeff Freitas released the following statement after the Supreme Court’s decision today rejecting the Trump administration’s attempt to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

“The Supreme Court’s DACA decision today is a victory for our students and our communities. Dreamers can rest a little easier tonight knowing that they can continue to live, work, and study in the U.S. without the daily fear of deportation. We are proud that our national union, the American Federation of Teachers, was an original plaintiff with the NAACP in the case, challenging the Trump administration’s cruel attempt to end the DACA program.

“But this victory is not enough. Our immigrant communities still live in constant fear of the brutal and capricious policies of the Trump administration. It is past time for comprehensive immigration reform that once and for all provides a path to citizenship for all undocumented immigrants.”

The California Federation of Teachers represents 120,000 teachers, faculty, and school employees in public and private schools and colleges, from early childhood through higher education. It is the statewide affiliate of the AFT. More information at www.cft.org.
