Statement on the California Senate and Assembly budget proposal

As the Trump administration continues its assault on the University of California, legislative budget leaders are standing strong in support of our nation’s premiere higher education system, rejecting the proposed 3% budget cuts to the UC system. We will continue to work with the Legislature to ensure these critical state funds are spent to benefit students.

Early in the morning of June 28,1969, police raided the Stonewall Inn in New York City’s Greenwich Village, a place where gay men, lesbians, bisexuals, and transgender people gathered. Police officers entered the club, roughed up patrons and arrested 13 people, including employees and people violating the state’s gender-appropriate clothing statute.

I wanted to get more information, because we went from a 40% in our membership last year, to 70% and we’ve been getting a lot of involvement with our members. They’ve been asking a lot of questions, and they are eager to know more about the union.  I’m here to give more information, and that way I can take it back to them and provide that information.

Members of a new CFT task force have been working on coming up with actions, both legislation and bargaining, to address the problem of understaffing in schools.
