Workplace Violence Prevention Training

Resolution

Whereas, the CFT believes the safety of students is paramount in creating supportive learning environments and is essential for academic success and emotional well-being; and
Whereas, the safety and well-being of our educators is of utmost importance; and
Whereas, many educators begin working with students who demonstrate behaviors that are violent, aggressive, or pose a danger to themselves or others without first receiving proper training; and
Whereas, districts that do provide proper training, often do so after educational staff have begun working with students who demonstrate unsafe behaviors; and
Whereas, regular training in effective techniques to prevent, de-escalate, and respond to violent or unsafe student behaviors has been shown to support safe and supportive schools;
Therefore, be it resolved, that CFT shall consider sponsoring legislation to require LEAs to provide in-person training for all educational staff prior to directing them to work with students who demonstrate unsafe behaviors.
