While emerging technologies can pose new opportunities for students and teachers, they also introduce unique challenges. New issues with AI-driven ed-tech’s effectiveness or data security come to light weekly. 

The promise of our public education system, to provide the basic skills and college or career readiness for every student, is at risk from an industry profiteering off private data of students and educators and the removal of professional educator’s agency over the pedagogical choices that provide a genuine learning environment. Ensuring there are effective guardrails for AI and edtech integration in our workplaces—California’s schools, colleges, and universities—is a top priority for CFT.
