SACRAMENTO, CA – CFT – A Union of Educators and Classified Professionals released the following statement today from President Jeff Freitas after the Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi (D-San Francisco) announced she would not seek reelection to Congress:
“Nancy Pelosi is a leader our students will learn about in history books for generations to come. A Californian through and through, a mother of five, and the first woman to lead the people’s House in Congress, Speaker Emerita Pelosi leaves an enduring legacy as a champion for workers and children. California’s educators and classified professionals celebrate her impact and wish her a well-deserved retirement as she completes her final term in Congress.
“Pelosi’s record of legislative accomplishments – the Affordable Care Act and the Inflation Reduction Act, among many – transformed the lives of millions of hard-working people and their families. Nancy led Congress with a strong voice and a compassionate heart – understanding the challenges working people face as they struggle to afford to live in the communities where they work, afford healthcare, and create brighter futures for their children.
“Standing shoulder to shoulder with workers, Nancy never backed down from a fight with the bullies and billionaires who sought to pad their own pockets at the expense of our middle class. She not only broke glass ceilings for working parents and women – she made it her mission to bring the next generation up behind her.
“Pelosi leaves an enduring legacy as a champion for our members and the families they serve, and some very fabulous stilettos for our next generation of leaders to fill.”
