SACRAMENTO, CA – CFT – A Union of Educators and Classified Professionals released the following statement today from President Jeff Freitas after the Associated Press called today’s election in favor of Proposition 50 – The Election Rigging Response Act:

“Every day Donald Trump demonstrates that he is unfit for office. His reckless attacks on our schools, our healthcare, our immigrant communities, our workers, and our democracy have harmed millions of people. And all the while the Republicans who control Congress have sat idly by, refusing to do their important work.

“We celebrate the decisive passage of Prop. 50 by Californian voters so our nation can elect a Congress that will hold Donald Trump accountable for his attacks on working people and communities. CFT is proud to have played our part in defending our democracy against Trump’s attempt to rig the election by redistricting other states. We are especially proud of the hundreds of shifts educators and classified professionals completed to get the word out to voters.

“CFT will always fight for our students, our schools, and our communities. In the year ahead we will continue to work with the parents and families we serve to protect our public schools and our democracy, including making sure we elect a Congress that understands its critical role in checking the drive toward authoritarianism by the Trump administration.”
