Sacramento, CA – CFT – A Union of Educators and Classified Professionals announced today that the CFT Executive Council has voted to endorse Sharon Hendricks for reelection to the CalSTRS Board of Directors.

The California Federation of Teachers (CFT) enthusiastically endorses Sharon Hendricks for re-election to the California State Teachers’ Retirement System (CalSTRS) Board as the Community College Representative. Throughout her leadership on the board, Sharon has been a consistent advocate for California educators and retirees, bringing deep experience, thoughtful leadership, and a strong commitment to protecting the long-term health of the pension fund. Her voice reflects the values of educators while she advances policies that strengthen retirement security for current and future members.

“Sharon Hendricks has been an exceptional leader for California educators and retirees,” said CFT President Jeff Freitas. “She understands that protecting our pensions requires both strong financial stewardship and the courage to address emerging risks. Sharon has been at the forefront of CalSTRS’ work on considering climate, governance, and labor risks. She has earned the trust and support of educators across California.”

At a critical time for the pension system, Sharon has played an important role in guiding CalSTRS toward full funding and helping the board navigate market downturns while maintaining a disciplined, long-term strategy. Her leadership has contributed to significant progress in strengthening the system’s financial position and ensuring that promised benefits remain secure for generations of educators. The CFT is proud to endorse Sharon Hendricks for re-election and urges CFT members to support her continued service on the CalSTRS Board.
