SACRAMENTO, CA – CFT – A Union of Educators and Classified Professionals today endorsed Proposition 40 on the November ballot, having previously taken a neutral position on the measure. Jeff Freitas, President of CFT, said:

“CFT has a long record of making the wealthy pay their fair share. In 2012, we led the fight for the income tax on top earners that still funds our schools, now on the ballot again as Prop 3. We’ve sponsored Asm. Alex Lee’s wealth tax bill for two sessions, and today we’re supporting Prop 40 to tax billionaires’ wealth.

“These ultra-wealthy individuals have hoarded wealth in ways that everyday people who work in this state, who struggle with affordability, who barely can move up in this economy will never know. It is time to tax these billionaires to provide the services everyday people desperately need.

“For too long California’s top-earners have amassed more and more wealth while middle class families continue to suffer. Let’s make them do their part and pay their fair share. Vote Yes on Prop 3 and Prop 40 this November. ”
