CFT Endorses Al Muratsuchi for Superintendent of Public Instruction

News Release

CFT – A Union of Educators and Classified Professionals announced today that their members voted to endorse Al Muratsuchi for Superintendent of Public Instruction.

As Assembly Education Committee Chair, a community college educator, and a union member, Muratsuchi has a long record of working alongside educators, classified professionals, and organized labor to strengthen public education — from early childhood and K-12 schools to California’s community colleges.

As California continues to focus on strengthening and building our public education system, leadership in this office has never been more important for the future of education in our state. This endorsement reflects the importance of having a strong leader who brings the expertise, and authority to increase investments in our schools and students.

CFT released the following statement from President Jeff Freitas:

“As the Trump Administration attempts to defund public schools, rip immigrant families apart, and roll back hard-won civil rights, California needs a Superintendent of Public Instruction who won’t back down from a fight. Al Muratsuchi has been a relentless champion for public schools, standing up to extremists and fighting for the teachers and classified employees who make our classrooms work every day. He understands that public schools are under attack, and he has the backbone and experience to fight back. Al Muratsuchi will work to fully fund our schools, defend our most vulnerable students, and ensure every child in California has a fair shot at success. That’s why the CFT is proud to endorse Al for Superintendent of Public Instruction.”

Al Muratsuchi, Candidate for State Superintendent of Public Instruction made the following statement:

“As a proud member of the American Federation of Teachers Local 1388, I’m honored to be endorsed by CFT – A Union of Educators and Classified Professionals. From classroom teachers and community college faculty to counselors, librarians, custodians, bus drivers, and administrative staff, these heroes are the heart of our public schools. They show up every day, often under challenging conditions, to make sure our students are supported, safe, and able to learn. As Superintendent of Public Instruction, I will always fight to ensure their work is respected and valued and that they have the resources they need to give every child in California a real shot at success.”
