Sacramento, CA — CFT – A Union of Educators and Classified Professionals announced today that its members voted to oppose Proposition 39 on the November ballot. Proposition 39 would create burdensome and unnecessary hurdles for voters in California, following President Trump’s playbook of attempting to silence the voices of millions of voters and influence the outcome of elections.

CFT released the following statement from President Jeff Freitas:

“Republicans are attempting to rig the rules in California against eligible voters because they know that when everyone has the ability to have their voices heard, they cannot win. Prop 39 is nothing but a direct attempt to silence black and brown voters’ voices and make voting harder for millions of Californians.

“But CFT members see right through these lies and are committed to fighting to ensure every single eligible voter is able to have their voice heard at the ballot box. As we teach our next generation of leaders about the history of our republic, it is critical that we protect the democratic institutions and the diverse electorate that are the foundation of our country.

“To keep our democracy alive, Californians must reject Proposition 39 in November. ”
