The CFT’s annual Union Summer School kicked off on Monday, June 22, with rank-and-file members from CFT locals across the state in residence at Cal Poly Pomona’s Kellogg Conference Center.

A half dozen week-long classes kept the union activists busily engaged with nuts and bolts union skill-building led by CFT staff and leadership. The majority were first-time attendees at the popular training.

“It’s a bit overwhelming,” said one member and first-timer from the ABC Federation of Teachers. “But as a newly elected local leader, I can already see how valuable this will be for me and the local.”

By week’s end, the activists had not only earned certificates of achievement but felt prepared to take on the business of the union and had built solid relationships with their colleagues from other local unions.
