World Teachers’ Day
AWARENESS

Special Dates

World Teachers’ Day recognizes teachers as key to the achievement of the worldwide education agenda. It has become the occasion to mark progress and reflect on ways to counter the remaining challenges for the promotion of the teaching profession.

World Teachers’ Day commemorates the anniversary of the adoption of the 1966 UNESCO recommendation concerning the status of teachers. A second recommendation in 1997 added teaching and research personnel in higher education.

World Teachers’ Day — recognized on October 5 each year — is co-convened in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme, UNICEF, the International Labour Organization, and Education International.
