WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH | |||
|
In August, 1913, nearly three thousand men, women and children came to
a Hop ranch in northern California in response to flyers asking for workers
for the harvest. There was only work for half of them. The camp was inadequate;
there was no water; there were only nine outhouses. Several laborers were
members of the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW). They led a rebellion
against these conditions which became known as the "Wheatland Hop
Riot." |
