Date of Meeting: May 2, 2009

Members Present: Melissa Peterson (Local 2317), Elaine Francisco (Local 3267), Isabel Delgadillo (Local 2317), Berta Harris (Local 1931), Laura Murphy (Local 1521A), Frances Robinson (Local 61), Betty Robinson-Harris (Local 61), Elaine Merriweather (Local 61), and Tanya Arnaiz.

Reporter: Rosa Maria Garcia.

Topics Discussed:

  • Community Pre-K, Sunnyvale report: church decided to sell the pre-k program. Tanya continues to negotiate their contract.
  • Child Development Policy Institute: we need to send reps from the ECE community.
  • Convention highlights: ECE workshop; AFT's Kindergarten Kit and RAND study. We stood up and spoke up against Prop. 1D. Rosa Maria Garcia voted as a new Vice President of CFT.

Action Taken:

  • Voted Elaine Merriweather as chair of the committee. Rosa Maria Garcia was voted the secretary/reporter.
  • We will attend the Classified Council Meeting and extend ourselves to offer a workshop at their convention in San Diego.
  • We will send members to the Early Learning Advocacy Day in Sacramento, CA on June 9th.

Future Plans:

  • Participate in NAEYC Convention/AFT booth/AFT workshop.
  • Schedule another Lobby Day in Sacramento with Dolores Sanchez.
  • Extension for HP Grant to present the RAND study.
