Sacramento, May 25—CFT vice-president Dean Murakami was one of the featured speakers at a Capitol press conference May 25 in support of AB 153, a bill sponsored by Assemblywoman Nancy Skinner (left, in striped dress), and AB 155 (Calderon).  A State Senate version of these bills, SB 234, is being carried by Loni Hancock (standing next to Skinner).  The bills would require out-of-state online retailers like Amazon to collect sales tax that by law they are required to charge, but do not.  This would bring California hundreds of millions of dollars for education and services.  California business interests also spoke in support of the bills, since the current situation is unfair to brick and mortar retailers who do charge sales taxes.  Steve Hopcraft photo
