WHAT'S NEW at CFT

A partisan power grab

Proposition 77
The governor's unfair remapping plan

By law, legislative redistricting occurs every ten years, following the new census. Proposition 77 would move up the timetable, forcing a mid-decade redistricting so that it is in place before the 2006 elections. Three retired judges would draw the new legislative boundaries, instead of the legislature.

Prop 77 is a partisan power grab by the governor. It is unnecessary, costly, and will use outdated census data. Like the rest of the governor's package, this proposal is so half-baked that even his own hand-picked Secretary of State, Bruce McPherson, has distanced himself from it. Taken off the ballot by a court ruling due to discrepancies in signature gathering, the California Supreme Court restored it on August 12.

Vote NO on Proposition 77.
