The California state library has produced a stunning map, suitable
for classroom, library, and union office walls. The efforts of
labor historian Dan Cornford (author of Working People of California)
and cartographer David Fuller resulted in a beautiful, oversized
(44 x 33 inches) and sturdy poster with more than two hundred
sixty entries on a timeline, from the Spanish colonial period
to the present day. The map is a great visual tool for helping
students to understand the place of working people and their organizations
in the state's history. A panel of labor historians and classroom
teachers oversaw the project, funded by the state library and
initiated by the Speaker's Commission on Labor Education.

The map is available for just $6, including shipping. Make checks
payable to the "California Federation of Teachers," and send to
CFT, One Kaiser Plaza, suite 1440, Oakland, CA 94612. Or you can
pay by credit card over the phone, 510-832-8812.
An extensive web site associated with the map project features
short essays and many more timeline entries at California
Labor History Map website.
